Happy Holidays

Merry Christmas. Happy Chanukah (a tad late), and a Wonderful Holiday for those of other or no tradition.
Some of my friends know that among my failings is that I am a foster parent for rescued parrots. I volunteer with Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue. We take in lost, abandoned or surrendered parrots and care for them until we can find loving homes.

Parrots are often purchased by well-meaning folk who don't realize that they are not like dogs and cats. They are not really domesticated. They are often one or two generations from the jungle and require a lot of care. While they are very smart--One African Grey learned more than 1,000 words and was able to construct a meaningful sentence--they are not for the timid. They live a long time, so provision needs to be made for their care if they live longer than you do. One of the volunteers writes a Christmas song each year. I thought that I would just share this with all the many friends who deign to read my occasional blog. Chloe Redon, the author, is a very creative "parront" with much experience--and a tongue in her cheek. LOL She has captured key characteristics of each of the species of parrot.

The Twelve Days of Christmas Parronts

On the twelfth day of Christmas,
my true love gave to me
Twelve Conures calling,

Eleven Budgies bathing,
Ten Lovebirds mating,
Nine Lories licking,
Eight Pigeons cooing,
Seven Tiels-a-talking,
Six Canaries singing,

FIVE GNARLY 'ZONS!  (Amazons for the lay person)

Four timid Greys,
Three Finch friends,
Two blue Macaws

And
a Poicephalus
in a palm tree.
